discrimination

you've heard of those experiments where skinny people dress in fat suits and go around and see how invisible they are as opposed to all the attention they get when they're pretty. well, i've been conducting my own little social experiment. when i drive to the train i wear my business clothes. when i ride my bike to the train i usually wear workout clothes. i've noticed that when i wear my business clothes people sit by me almost immediately. however, when i wear my workout clothes the seat next to me is almost always the last to be taken. is it because people assume i smell (which i don't because 1. it is only a three mile ride and not hot enough to sweat 2. i reapply deodorant 3. i spray magnolia blossom body spray)? or is it simply because i look different? whatever the reason, it is an interesting observation since i'm sure it is unconscious. in the meantime, i'll enjoy my open seat.

and... the other day at work hersh said to me, "what is wrong with this business? there seem to be so many women in charge. not like my other job where it was all men, like it should be." ummm... excuse me?!?! did i just here that?!?! first off, it isn't a true statement. while we may have a few women middle managers (it's probably a 50-50 split), all of the top management are men. secondly, do you really want to be backhanded in public? seriously.

i've really got nothing new to say except that 1. lots of stuff going on at work--> i've been working a bazillion hours (but i'd rather be busy than bored) and i have manager "issues"; 2. my new laptop is here and i LOVE it--> i had my first webcam experience; 3. megan will be here on thursday and i can't wait

selfish saturday

this was my first weekend in my new place by myself (first my parents were here and then lindsey was here) so i decided to have selfish saturday, which basically involves doing whatever i want. it kind of started on friday night when i promised my friends i'd go out with them but instead fell asleep at 8 o'clock... but since that was completely accidental (and totally lame) i'm not sure it technically counts as selfish. whatever. anyway, on saturday i:
1. cooked a great breakfast and ate on my balcony while reading a book
2. cleaned my entire apartment
3. ran errands
3a. got my eyebrows waxed
3b. bought a new coffee pot (btw, i LOVE my new coffee pot)
4. rode my bike
5. made a great dinner
6. took a bubble bath
7. watched big bang theory season 1

pretty perfect day

and in other news... my boss won't let me go home in august so i decided that if i'm not going to see my family/friends til christmas i need a webcam. however, my computer isn't webcam compatible. it isn't anything compatible really. since i had to have it reimaged it pretty much only runs the internet (meaning no music, movies, etc.) and freezes up every two seconds. sssooo, i bought a new laptop. that's right: a whole new laptop. just so i can have a webcam.

just fyi, the weather here sucks. it has been raining for over a week. literally. no sun. and i'm tired of it. i am in serious need of some vitamin d.

Harbor Walk

Lindsey came into town on Friday and on Sunday we did the Harbor Walk (everything up here is on Sunday--very weird). It was a six mile walk around Carson beach that benefitted one of the pedi clinics at Tufts. These pics were taken by Bill (a guy I work with). I'll post pics from the rest of her visit later.

mom and dad dropped me and my bike (not my racing bike, my other bike) at the train station this morning (i'm riding my bike to the train now to save parking money) and left for ohio. we had a great time. did lots of site seeing but there was so much they didn't get to see. and we ate amazing food. seriously. amazing. pray for safe travel as they head back home.

lindsey will be here on friday and megan is coming july fourth. i'm excited!!
